For years, fans have been starving for a fresh new take on the classic math driven adventure that was Number Crunchers. Ubisoft’s upcoming title The Division, is the latest attempt to answer the call by combining classic learning based gameplay with gritty dystopian action.
We sat down with The Division’s Skerj McKenzie, to get an inside look at the combat behind the blockbuster shooter. “Each encounter with an enemy triggers an equation that the player must solve”. McKenzie explains, “Taking cover and aiming down the sights feels fast and fluid, but when you lean out of cover to take a shot, an advanced math sequence will appear on screen. The player must solve the problem quickly in order to shoot, and show his complete work to hit the target”.
Our hands on time with The Division was short, but the armageddon styled spiritual successor to Number Crunchers is poised to be a massive success when it hits shelves over this holiday. Until then, we’ll be studying up on our advanced geometry for what’s sure to be a non-stop roller coaster of action, stay tuned for more. - Brian Garthoff
